January is a dreary monotone
Nighttime air is clear and cold
The moon ascends its winter throne
Lunar magnification is many fold
When the distant sun cracks through
The frigid air quickly ensnares the heat
Teasing, we’re offered a spring preview
This glimpse quickens a shivering heartbeat
Ricocheting sunlit showers abound
Disintegrating icicles drip their brilliance
Icy puddles amass across the ground
To be frozen again by the night’s resilience
Winter is a disappointingly callous lover
Stolen minutes of daylight rolled back
Overstaying and leaving us to recover
Joyous moods fade from cheerful to black
