Skagway and the Yukon are calling. And we answered. A cloudy and occasionally a drizzly day, but what the weather latched, the majestic scenery made up for. Today was about the diverse topography and vegetation, from sand dunes to snow-capped mountains to deep forested gorges with emerald-water lakes.
Skagway is a very small town, but tourism swells the area, mainly from visiting cruise ships. The Gateway to the Klondike, the starting point for many in search of gold and silver. It’s a quaint like town, where we were told that the mayor owns the local dispensary.

We traveled back from BC on the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad. The perfect way to see the gorgeous country.

These photo only scratch the surface of this amazing stretch of North America. Traveling inland from Skagway into British Columbia and the Yukon was simply breathtaking. That word could be used repeatedly, but I will find other adjectives.
I have numerous images about Alaska. As a kid, it was bears, igloos and Eskimos. Later, it was the television show Northern Exposure. Alaska is a vast area with many different cultures, geography, climates and history.
This cruise is our honeymoon, so the trip has even more meaning for us. Credit to my wife, who planned and organized this trip with minor involvement from me – hence the success and pleasure of these nine days.
