We talked about nothing
But it sure felt like something
The windows were all down
The car sped out of town
In the country, sunshine everywhere
Music and her smile filled the air
In my mind I heard her hearty laugh
Her nimble head stretched like a giraffe
I felt her nose move along my cheek
For a moment I forgot how to speak
At the turnoff we pulled off the road
The hummingbirds danced in code
Unaware, my stress dissolved away
So many words I wanted to say
I couldn’t help but drink from her eyes
What I saw was kind and profoundly wise
Heartily she shared her deepest views
She knew more than the evening news
