A dog’s life for me
Simple, eat, drink, pee
My world reaches to the fence
For me, perfect sense
In a nanosecond I’m asleep
Snoring, no need counting sheep
A life without hurry
My parents shoulder the worry
Deciding where to squat
Is my grandest daily thought
But, behind these brown eyes
I see more than you realize
People invented the rat race
Competing for limited headspace
First you get up, then crash down
Alternating, a smile and a frown
Who’s really on the hamster wheel
It all seems repetitively surreal
Anxiously perched by the door
Not a drop of pee on the floor
Each day, I have the same plans
Awaiting them, my humans
