The night possessed me
Later, it consumed the rest
The heat melted any defense
As the takeover progressed
—
Battle stations, alarms sounding
The fever raged
No one left in charge
The brain, not engaged
—
Reasoning now breached
Fantasy and reality blending
A frothy mix of chaos
Disaster now pending
—
The mind creates safeguards
Friend or foe, servant or boss?
Approaching, last mile of sanity
A fail-safe line to never cross
—
But, the body follows the order
Panic is now unchecked
Survival mode activated
Escape, press eject
—
Crash, sprawled in a heap
Surprise and confusion
Ready, where’s the threat?
Just bruises and a contusion
—
Safety, where is it?
Fear overrides perception
Covid brain fog rules
In this primal misconception
