Late for My Own Sunrise

Arriving on my own time

Preferring to schedule my own show

I may be slow to the finish line

But will always savoir a rainbow

β€”

Struggling with these holes in my memory

To think I was daydreaming in class

Now I have forgotten why birds sing

Yet I know about neutrons in atomic mass

While others studied, I wondered

Barefoot and open-minded

Swimming in experience

Avoiding what leaves others blinded

Untangling the mysteries of human existence

Bobbing in a sea of unborn opportunities

With no one watching, I sample them all

My eyes light up at life’s endless possibilities

Time slows this elongated orbit

Fighting the snare of lingering guilt

Jettying things holding little value

Remembering a faded smile can be rebuilt
