Cantankerous, crusty, curmudgeons. The surviving members of Monty Python (or at least several members) would be suitable characters in a new version of Grumpy Old Men.
John Cleese and Eric Idle seem bitter and locked in mutual, verbal combat with each other.

Cleese has gone on record that Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam, agreed with him, not Idle. The issue involves the management of Monty Python’s financial affairs, which had been headed up by Gilliam’s daughter for a number of years. Idle’s contention is that she hasn’t done a very good job and not enough money is coming in, despite their creative successes including the musical production of Spamalot!, which generated substantial income. Idle wrote the play’s lyrics and co-wrote the music.
Idle muses that he’s forced to work at 81 to pay the bills. Cleese, 84, also continues working, in part he admits, due to an expensive divorce settlement.
Gilliam and Palin wisely avoid getting in the line of fire. Graham Chapman died in 1989 and Terry Jones in 2020.
