You’ve been around this block before
Stood disappointed and bitter
Closed your heart and nailed it shut
A failure at romance, but not a quitter
You can run, but try and hide
You can deny and not believe
Time will reveal your true feelings
And love, is better than you conceive
In your mind, she looks right at you
In your heart, she comes right at you
In your soul, she will wait for you
In time, when it’s right, she will come for you
Not a ray of light can fit between us
Yet a world of ideas flows between us
A day, a week, a year, time is a plus
It gives us a lifetime to discuss
You smile, and I forget my name
Ardent desire is easy to blame
Drawn to you, the moth to the flame
Simply, I’ve never felt the same
In your mind, she looks right at you
In your heart, she comes right at you
In your soul, she will wait for you
In time, when it’s right, she will be with you
Great poem, Mike! The chorus in itself could be a poem. 🙂

I enjoyed your poem! I thought the best lines were ‘Not a ray of light can fit between us’ and ‘You smile, and I forget my name.’
