Late Life Love Affair

The ravenous feeling of late night

Thoughts anything but straight

Still thinking in the morning light

In those stars is my fate

With you, soaring higher than a kite

I fall back to earth in a different state

Struggling with all my might

Nervous on our first date

These butterflies took flight

Surviving the impossible wait

Until you wondered into eyesight

And this pounding heart rate

What a time for stage fright

An outlier, a love expatriate

Now here as a neophyte

You’ve opened a mighty floodgate

Carried away, nothing to fight

Late life tends to rejuvenate

Laughs, elation, humble, contrite

The inner emotions of a soulmate
